Interactive Orals…the process…

Communicative activities that mirror an authentic task are the current focus of many of our language classrooms. Sometimes it can be a challenge to figure out what to do. My solution has always been to look at the learning outcomes for the chapter and then to figure out what ‘real life’ activity would incorporate it.

In my Japanese 12 class we do a wide variety of ‘oral final’ tasks. What has changed over the years is how the ‘meat’ of the lessons have been delivered – by video now, flipped etc. What hasn’t changed is the challenge – and the fact that the day of the oral the students work in the TL for 50 minutes, or more, without a break.
